Bono in U23D Weekend preview: From DJ Seikaly to the other Marley and the other Kardashian By Ben Crandell | SunSentinel.com March 19, 2009 Get ready, here comes Winter Music Conference. ("Run WMC" is not a new tween-ready hip-hop reality show from the House of Kimora, but for many a warning.) You might assume that the March 24-28 turntable festival, sort of a SXSW for the beats-per-minute crowd that draws thousands of DJ music adherents from around the globe, might be vulnerable to the vageries of the global economy. You'd be wrong. Many of the big-name, bigger-ticket shows at the swankiest South Beach clubs next week are sold out (check out the schedules at wintermusicconference.com). But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Here are 10 ways to have fun this weekend: 1. BIG DJ Again, what celebrity worth a blab in Us Weekly hasn't taken a turn behind a set of turntables? So who's surprised that the biggest name on the invitation for Saturday night's shindig at Liv is also ex-Heat star, entrepreneur and friend of supermodels Rony Seikaly? For real. Liv is in the Fontainebleau (4441 Collins). Info: livnightclub.com, 305-674-4680.© 2. ADIEU, U2 The last time I saw U2 was from the worst seat in the house: last row, top level, behind Larry Mullen Jr. First time I saw U2, I got to pat a very young Bono on the back as he carried the flag through the audience. But the best seat I'll ever have may be at the IMAX theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale Is your Fort Lauderdale restaurant clean? - Click Here., where the awe-inspiring U2 3D ends its run this weekend with screenings at 7:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets: $12. Info: mods.org, 954-713-0940. 3. ROAD TRIP Fitness, feel-good fundraising and bold-faced names, the holy trinity of South Florida culture, are the draw at Sunday morning's Celebrity 5K for the Community Partnership for the Homeless. You never know who you're going to see at the eye-catching run/walk event that traverses Biscayne Bay on the MacArthur Causeway on its way from Watson Island to South Beach. The run begins at 7:30 a.m., with an after party at the delicious Nikki Beach Club. Info: celebrity5k.com, 305-278-8668. 4. PUSSY CHAT? Big Pussy, free vodka and poker -- what more can you ask out of life? You can hit up Sopranos star Vincent Pastore Friday night at Miami Beach's Hot Tuna restaurant, where they are introducing the "Sleeping Fish" sushi roll dedicated to the actor (who played Big Pussy on the hit HBO show). From 7 to 9 p.m., you can score free drinks from SurReal Vodka as you take in live music and the moves of the "Hot Tuna Dancers." The night really gets going at 10 p.m. with a poker tournament including Pastore; seats can be purchased for $100, with all proceeds going to Mercy House. The winner gets a dinner with Pastore Saturday night. Hot Tuna is at 764 Washington Ave. Info: www.hottunamiami.com, 877-352-8862.
